From June to October, colorful fruits thrive
well in our Home & Garden. During
this period, we feel good from eating well simple and natural foods rich in
nutrients such as fruits, vegetables, legumes and grains that give us greater
energy and positive outlook.
From
the 32 varieties of our fruit bearing trees, the second fruit variety that excites
our taste is the Avocado.
We have two (2) kinds of Avocados; they are avocado
Botelya and avocado Lopena.
The fruit of avocado Botelya is
bottle shaped, large, weighs about 370 gram, and has smooth, glossy purple skin
when ripe. The skin is medium thick and
easily peels off. The flesh is thick,
yellow and relatively fibrous. The seeds
are small and loose in the cavity.
Avocado Lopena is the local variety; the fruit
is round, weighs about 300 gram, and has rough, blackish, purple skin when
ripe. The skin is thick and peels off
easily. Flesh is medium thick and
yellow. The seed is small and tight in
the cavity.
Although avocado
fruits are not popularly enjoyed in the Philippines, it is one of the most
nutritious fruits in the world. It is a rich source of Vitamin A, and contains little amount
of Vitamin B complex. It’s the best
fruit source of Vitamin E that protects against many diseases. My wife usually
used the ripe avocado fruit in making ice-creams, filling for sandwiches and
quick desserts.
Avocados have several
medicinal benefits. It is an excellent
source of glutathione, an important antioxidant that is important in preventing
ageing. Avocado also protects the
elderly from age-related eye diseases like macular degeneration and
cataracts. It also lowers incidence of
heart disease.
Our
Home & Garden had inspired me to use my imagination and cultivate an
optimistic mind. The produce of the garden
made me to believe that I can make possible what others think is impossible. I wish that every Home and garden will yield
many fruits without limit for natural healing of our physical, mental and
spiritual wellness.
